Wrexham AFC, founded in 1864, is the third-oldest football club in the world and the oldest in Wales. For most of its history, it played in the lower tiers of English football. But in 2020, something unexpected happened — the club was bought by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
What began as a feel-good story became a serious project. With smart investments, a dedicated squad, and a massive boost in global popularity thanks to the hit documentary Welcome to Wrexham, the club rocketed up the leagues. In 2023, they were promoted to League One. And just a year later, in 2024, Wrexham clinched promotion to the Championship— a level they hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years.
Their historic home, The Racecourse Ground, is now a symbol of both tradition and ambition. The club has gone global, yet remains rooted in the local Welsh community. The dream of Premier League football suddenly doesn’t seem so far-fetched — and if anyone can pull it off, it’s Wrexham.
